Measuring your kitchen for an estimate

Gather Tools

Tools and Materials Needed:

  • Tape Measure: A retractable tape measure works best for accuracy
  • Paper: To sketch the layout of your space and jot down measurements
  • Pen or Pencil: For writing down your measurements
  • Calculator: To quickly calculate square footage
  • Ladder or step stool: To reach higher places safely

Make a Rough Sketch

  • Label all appliances, windows, doors, electrical and plumbing

For New Builds!

  • Provide PDF plans of your new build or by measuring your space. Review the options of styles and select for an estimate

Take Horizontal Measurements (Wall Length)

  • Measure from wall edge to wall edge
  • Note all obstacles
  • Measure all openings

Take Vertical Measurements (Ceiling Height)

  • Measure from floor to ceiling
  • Measure at multiple points to account for variations
  • Note any sloped ceilings that may affect the installation

Check The Corners For Squareness

  • Mark a point 3 feet out from the corner of one wall
  • Mark a point 4 feet out from the corner of the adjacent wall
  • Measure the distance between the two marked points, if the distance is 5 feet, the corner is square

Find The Center Point of Your Fixtures, Appliances, and Utilities

  • This includes stoves, refrigerators, sinks and plumbing, dishwashers, light switches, electrical outlets, and heating and air vents
  • Measure the length, width, and height
  • Measure the distance between objects to the floor and ceiling

Measure All Doors and Windows

  • Make sure to note the height and width
  • Include the trim
  • Measure from the wall to each opening
  • Measure the distance between objects to the floor and ceiling

Measure The Existing Cabinets

  • This is to ensure that your new cabinets will fit
