Measuring your kitchen for an estimate
Gather Tools
Tools and Materials Needed:
- Tape Measure: A retractable tape measure works best for accuracy
- Paper: To sketch the layout of your space and jot down measurements
- Pen or Pencil: For writing down your measurements
- Calculator: To quickly calculate square footage
- Ladder or step stool: To reach higher places safely
Make a Rough Sketch
- Label all appliances, windows, doors, electrical and plumbing
Take Horizontal Measurements (Wall Length)
- Measure from wall edge to wall edge
- Note all obstacles
- Measure all openings
Take Vertical Measurements (Ceiling Height)
- Measure from floor to ceiling
- Measure at multiple points to account for variations
- Note any sloped ceilings that may affect the installation
Check The Corners For Squareness
- Mark a point 3 feet out from the corner of one wall
- Mark a point 4 feet out from the corner of the adjacent wall
- Measure the distance between the two marked points, if the distance is 5 feet, the corner is square
Find The Center Point of Your Fixtures, Appliances, and Utilities
- This includes stoves, refrigerators, sinks and plumbing, dishwashers, light switches, electrical outlets, and heating and air vents
- Measure the length, width, and height
- Measure the distance between objects to the floor and ceiling
Measure All Doors and Windows
- Make sure to note the height and width
- Include the trim
- Measure from the wall to each opening
- Measure the distance between objects to the floor and ceiling
